Visit the festival exhibition hall where the floats used in the Hanawa Bayashi festival, the UNESCO intangible cultural heritage, are displayed and learn about the history and culture of Kazuno.
You will find a large selection of specialties such as traditional akebi vine baskets, local sake and soy sauce. Lavender soft-serve ice cream and 7-swirl mega soft-serve ice cream are very popular.
Tenno Sky Tower offers sweeping views of Lake Hachiro and the Oga Peninsula. The variety of facilities here includes hot spring baths for day visitors, a grassy picnic square and BBQ area.
One of the largest product promotion centers in the Tohoku region, the roadside station offers a wide selection of Nikaho specialties, Inaniwa udon and folk crafts. The hot spring bath on the 4th floor provides sweeping views of the Sea of Japan.
The roadside station on Route 108 has a market selling local farm produce and a restaurant where you can enjoy Chokai Komachi noodles made from rice powder of Chokai.
Spanning approx. 4km, this gorge offers a series of natural wonders, such as Yoko Waterfall, Magari Waterfall, and Ana Waterfall, as well as extraordinary views such as Sankai Falls and Rokkai Falls. Komata Gorge has been designated a prefectural place of scenic beauty and a natural monument. It can be reached by means including the sightseeing boat for Lake Taihei.
Ani Ski Resort is on Mt. Moriyoshi, a 1,454m-high mountain known for "snow monsters" that was selected as one of the best 100 flower mountains. There is an incredible view from the 6-person gondola that runs 3.5km and takes 15 min. to reach the mountaintop. The spectacular 360° panoramic vista looks out onto the sparkling, snow-covered Ani mountains. You can also enjoy walking in the mountainous heights up to the 8th station.
Near a scenic lake where Canadian canoe and triathlon competitions are held, this facility displays materials dating up until the dam was created and introduces artifacts excavated during construction of the dam. An expansive view of the dam can be seen from the observation platform, and the cafe next door sells locally grown vegetables and sweets made by local farmers.
The landscape surrounding Lake Taihei variously changes throughout the four seasons. The manmade lake measures 30km around and 58m deep. It is fed by 13 small and large mountain streams and is home to numerous fish. Visitors are encouraged to take the sightseeing boat around the lake.
The town has an approx. 700-year history of large drums, and Takanosu has an exhibit that includes the largest drum in the world (diameter: 3.71m) that is recorded in the Guinness World Records, as well as drums from various countries. There are drum-related souvenirs at the shop next door selling local products.
The rail bike runs along an old railway line built to transport goods for a mine. The natural landscape is invigorating with cherry blossoms and fresh greenery, and the railway bridge stretching over a clear stream provides a bit of a thrill.
The dog breed, Akita dog is a natural treasure that is characterized by triangular ears, a large body, and a temperate personality. In addition to materials on display in the hall, there are also items on sale such as Akita dog chains and t-shirts. Visitors can see actual Akita Inu from late April to late November.
Hakka Pass is located at the tip of a crater lake that sunk due to volcanic activity. It affords a fantastic view. At its front, you can see the southern Hakkoda mountains beyond the rim of the crater lake, Lake Towada.
Sakura trees are planted along the levee spanning for approximately 2 kilometers, resulting in a beautiful pink-colored tunnel. The tunnel is lit up at night, resulting in an awe-inspiring scenery reflected on the river's surface. Best time to view: From mid-April to early May
An interesting rock formation found within "Shiosezaki" that has a profile that looks very similar to the monster called "Godzilla". Once the sun sets, the red sky highlights the profile of the rock formation and the light makes an illusion that "Godzilla is breathing fire"
The yellow colors that spans for 11 kilometers along the roadside compliments the contrast of the Sakura and black Pine trees. Ogata village has a wide flowerbed which becomes crowded during early May, when the flowers are in full bloom. Best time to view: From late April to early May
The Honjo park, which is a castle ruins park is known as the place where approximately 1200 Sakura trees and 12000 Azaleas blooms. There are hot springs and resting areas found within the park and even from there, you can enjoy the flowery scenery. Best time to view: Mid-April to late April
A place in Akita prefecture where the Sakura blooms first. During summer, the sakura around the lagoon blooms against the view of Mt. Chokai in summer. This is a scenery you can only enjoy at the northern province. Best time to view: Mid-April to late April
