Day 1

This mansion was built by a businessman from Iwate prefecture. The greenery viewed from the corridor soothes the spirit, and you can enjoy tea and Japanese sweets served inside. In the fall, the colored leaves are illuminated.

Stroll through the forest amidst the grand nature such as virgin beech forest and alpine plants, and experience forest therapy (the effects of forest bathing are scientifically proven).

You will find alpine plants surrounding the emerald green pond. Trekking trails are also available and you will feel the wonders of nature.

Matsukawa is famous for having the first geothermal power generation in Japan. The landscape is lovely along Matsukawa Gorge, which is enveloped in a virgin forest of beech and oak trees. The 4 hot spring inns each have open-air baths special in their own right, and visitors are encouraged to have fun trying out each one.

Day 2

This picturesque gorge has an abundance of nature, including the largest Meoto (husband and wife) rocks in Japan created by erosion, Ogami Rock and Megami Rock, and Ohogake (eroded cliff). As you approach Basen Bridge, you'll see the spectacular fall colors of deciduous trees along the gorge.

From the season of fresh greenery full of vibrancy to snowscapes enveloped in silence, there is beauty surrounding this ever-changing mountain stream. Along the way, you'll find the famous "Furosen." Legend says that drinking from it heals disease and gives perennial youth and long life. ★Be aware that National Rt. 281 has one-way alternating traffic in some areas due to Typhoon No. 10 (as of October 17, 2016).

A spectacular scenic site of 200-meter-high cliffs extending about 8 km along the coast. You can enjoy picturesque views of strangely shaped rocks, sea caves of various sizes, and other sights.
